Cambridge system
Cambridge AS and A Levels are internationally recognized qualifications offered by Cambridge Assessment International Education. The AS (Advanced Subsidiary) level is typically taken at the beginning of high school, followed by the A (Advanced) level. This program provides students with a comprehensive and rigorous education.
Cambridge International AS & A Level develops learners’ knowledge, understanding and skills in:
- in-depth subject content
- in-dependent thinking
- applying knowledge and understanding to new as well as familiar situations
- handling and evaluating different types of information source
- thinking logically and presenting ordered and coherent arguments
- making judgements, recommendations and decisions
- presenting reasoned explanations, understanding implications and communicating them logically and clearly
- working and communicating in English
Through a combination of written exams, coursework, and practical assessments, Cambridge AS and A Levels provide a robust evaluation of students’ knowledge, understanding, and application of concepts. These qualifications are highly respected worldwide as they are offered in 160 countries globally. They provide a solid foundation for academic and professional success. Accreditation
We’re so excited to share with you that RTU ISST is officially licensed as Cambridge International School. This is a high school equivalent to the stage of academic Secondary Education in the Republic of Latvia.

Curriculum
We proudly follow the Cambridge International AS & A Levels curriculum, placing a strong emphasison STEAM subjects. The program is conducted in English and spans three years, ensuring comprehensive preparation for university studies. What's more, we have a special connection with Riga Technical University, giving our students exclusive access to its resources and academic expertise. Join us for an exciting academic journey!
Students earned the AICE Diploma – a well-rounded qualification combining STEAM, languages, and the humanities.
Initially, students study AS Level subjects, while in their final year, they focus on three Cambridge A Level courses aligned with their chosen field of future study. We recommend A Level Mathematics as a compulsory subject, as it is one of the most in-demand subjects worldwide.
From the 2027/2028 school year, students will have additional opportunities to study STEAM subjects, including Chemistry at AS and A Level and Biology at AS and A Level. They will also have the opportunity to study Business at AS and A Level.
The first step – AS level subjects: English; Business; Mathematics; Physics (optional); Chemistry (optional); Biology (optional); Computer Science (optional); Global Perspectives & Research.
A Level – building on subjects studied at AS Level, with a deeper focus on 2 chosen subjects and Mathematics.
AS & A Level English Language
Develop an ability to read and analyze material, gaining further knowledge and understanding of English language features and issues. Learners will also develop the skills of writing clearly, accurately, creatively and effectively for different purposes and audiences.
AS & A Level Mathematics
Learn the skill of working with mathematical information, as well as the ability to think logically and independently, consider accuracy, model situations mathematically, analyse results, and reflect on findings.
AS & A Level Physics
The syllabus includes the main theoretical concepts which are fundamental to the subject, some current applications of physics, and a strong emphasis on advanced practical skills. Practical skills are assessed in a timetabled practical examination.
AS Level Chemistry
The syllabus includes the main theoretical concepts which are fundamental to the subject, some current applications of chemistry, and a strong emphasis on advanced practical skills. Practical skills are assessed in a timetabled practical examination.
AS Level Computer Science
Learners develop computational thinking & programming skills to solve computer science problems. Cambridge International AS and A Level Computer Science will help learners develop a range of skills such as thinking creatively, analytically, logically and critically
AS Level Global Perspectives & Research
This is a skills-based course that will broaden your outlook through the critical analysis of – and reflection on – issues of global significance. You will develop unique, transferable skills including research, critical thinking and communication by following an approach to analysing and evaluating arguments and perspectives called the ‘Critical Path’.
Latvian studies
You will engage in Latvian language and literature at your level, explore Latvia’s rich history and culture in local and global contexts, and delve into its stunning landscapes and the interplay of geography with culture, lifestyle, and economy, as Latvian studies are a required part of the curriculum for international schools in Latvia.
AS Digital Media & Design
Cambridge International AS & A Level Digital Media & Design allows you to explore a range of processes and techniques in digital media through flexible course design covering digital photography, moving image, games design and mobile and multimedia applications.
